Antiochus Epiphanes may be a type of the beast but also more likely a type of the king of the north (Dan.11:40). Note vs.14, the sanctuary is cleansed after the revolt of Judas Maccabeus against Antiochus E.Result is the feast of Hanukkah.

Times of the Gentiles

After the death of Alexander, his empire was divided among his 4 generals. Most of this history is about the king of the south (Ptolomies) and the king of the north (Seleucids), a time span of about 200 yrs. Refer to Dan.2:31-45 and chart in Dan 9.
