The Tranfiguration

His face shone as the sun, special to Matt. This is a preview of His coming Millennial glories. The Father's approval of His perfection in life and walk.

The Coming Messiah

The two witnesses who prophecy 1260 days. They are clothed with sackcloth and ashes. These are the 2 olive trees and 2 lamps which stand before the Lord of the earth. See Zech 4:3,11-14, Mal 4:5,6. These are possibly Moses and Elijah or persons like them.

Christ Suffering at the Hands of Men

Christ anticipating His sufferings both at the hands of men and His atoning sufferings, followed by a voice out of heaven saying: "I both have glorified and will glorify it again". This was the third time His Father's voice of approval was heard.

John the Baptist

The disciples ask why that Elias must first have come. The Lord says that he has already come, meaning John the baptist. This is a good example of a dual application of prophetic scriptures. Elias came in the spirit and power of John and will come again.
